WELCOME The Friends of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center
The Broward County African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) is located in the heart of the African-American community. It is more than just a branch library… it is a rare species. It was the third of its kind in the United States and it the pride of the community. AARLCC is a research library and cultural center for scholars, students, and the general public. It contains more that 85,000 books, documents, artifacts and related materials that focus on the experience of people of African descent.
The 60,000 square foot facility includes a 300-seat auditorium, seminar and conference rooms, exhibit area, and computer labs. AARLCC’s services include a small business development center, computer skills development, lifelong learning and literacy programs, research skills development, genealogical research training, and a Cultural Series that presents arts and cultural events to the community. Along with its typical branch library collection, other collections include books and electronic materials related to African-American and Caribbean history, culture and experiences, primary source materials, and special collections from notable donors.
